Arizona and Taiwan open representative office in Phoenix

Arizona and Taiwan opened a Phoenix office to support Taiwanese businesses and residents despite objections from China.

Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs and Taiwanese officials opened a representative office in Phoenix to support Taiwanese businesses and citizens in the region. Taiwanese authorities said the office will also promote technology collaboration, including semiconductor manufacturing.

The Associated Press reported that China’s consulate in Los Angeles had written to Hobbs opposing the plan before the opening. China’s embassy said it opposes official interactions between Taiwan and U.S. governments.
