Canada's Liberals sweep three parliamentary special elections
Canada's Liberal Party won special elections in Quebec, Ontario and British Columbia, bringing its total to 173 seats in the 343-seat House of Commons.
The Liberals retained seats in Toronto and British Columbia and gained Chicoutimi-Le Fjord in Quebec from the Conservatives. The Quebec result pushed the Conservatives into third place in a district they had held since 2018.
Prime Minister Mark Carney called the results an endorsement of his government's plan as Canada remains in a trade dispute with the United States.
