CDC declined request to validate high-volume measles test, states say
California and Washington said the CDC declined to validate a proposed high-volume measles test, according to a letter from four western states.
California and Washington asked the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in May to validate a rapid, high-volume test for measles, according to a letter sent by the West Coast Health Alliance. The letter says the CDC declined the request after two months, citing competing priorities.
The alliance, which includes California, Hawaii, Oregon and Washington, asked the agency to reconsider. A Health and Human Services spokesperson said the CDC is supporting state and local measles detection and response while prioritizing emerging technologies.
