Communications failures cancel hundreds of Northeast flights
A primary circuit failure and a cut backup fiber line disrupted air traffic control, canceling hundreds of flights across the U.S. Northeast.
The failures affected Philadelphia and the three major New York City-area airports for several hours Monday, the Federal Aviation Administration said. Some service resumed by early afternoon, but significant delays were expected to continue.
Verizon said construction contractors cut the backup cable along an Amtrak rail line in New Jersey. The FAA was installing a replacement primary circuit while repairs continued.
