England and Wales drought triggers 349 environmental incidents in 2026
UK agencies recorded 349 drought-related environmental incidents this year and warned that effects on wildlife could persist for years.
The incidents include algal blooms, fish deaths, water-quality problems and low river flows. England’s reservoir storage was 19.7% below the seasonal average, according to the National Drought Group.
