Federal judge dismisses U.S. lawsuit challenging California transgender student-athlete policy
A federal judge dismissed the Justice Department's lawsuit seeking to block California's policy allowing transgender students to join teams matching their gender.
U.S. District Judge Cynthia Valenzuela dismissed the Justice Department's case against California's school-sports policy. The judge found that the federal government had not clearly notified the state that funding depended on barring transgender girls from girls' teams.
The Justice Department said it was evaluating a possible appeal.
