French student protests spread as police-brutality investigations open
French student protests over school conditions spread nationwide as authorities opened investigations into allegations of police brutality during recent clashes.
Student protests over teacher shortages, deteriorating schools and overcrowded classes spread from a low-income Paris suburb across France, with hundreds of high schools blockaded or closed, the Guardian reported.
The report said 10 investigations into possible police brutality were under way after injuries allegedly involving police weapons. Government figures cited by the Guardian said thousands had been arrested since the protests began, most of them minors.
