Iceland voters reject proposal to hold EU accession talks
Icelandic voters rejected reopening European Union accession talks, with the no side leading 52.5% to 47.5% as the final votes were counted, broadcaster RUV reported.
Icelandic voters rejected a proposal to resume European Union accession negotiations suspended in 2013. National broadcaster RUV reported the no side ahead 52.5% to 47.5%, with the remaining votes not expected to alter the result.
The referendum was not a vote on EU membership itself. The governing coalition had said it would honor the result, making renewed talks unlikely during its current term.
