James Clyburn backs Abdul El-Sayed in Michigan Senate race after apology

James Clyburn said he supports Michigan Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed after the candidate apologized for remarks following an attack on a synagogue.

Clyburn said Sunday that he accepted El-Sayed’s apology and supported his election. El-Sayed told the Michigan Democratic Jewish Caucus that he had made a mistake in comments issued after a March vehicle attack on a synagogue in West Bloomfield Township.

El-Sayed, who narrowly won the Democratic primary, is scheduled to face Republican Mike Rogers in November.
