Libya’s rival administrations sign plan for national elections within two years

Representatives of Libya’s rival administrations signed an agreement in Tripoli calling for presidential and legislative elections within 24 months.

Representatives linked to Libya’s eastern and western administrations signed the agreement Sunday at the United Nations mission in Tripoli. The plan calls for elections under one executive authority within a period not exceeding 24 months.

The parties are expected to create an implementation framework with the UN mission within one month, but disputes over interim governance remain unresolved after previous election efforts stalled.
