Meta-analysis finds emotional climate messages prompt more engagement than facts alone
An analysis of 71 studies found that emotion-centered climate messages generally motivated more engagement than factual explanations alone.
A meta-analysis covering 71 publications and at least 216,000 participants found that factual climate messages can increase engagement, but messages evoking emotions such as awe or concern were among the most effective.
Messages emphasizing individual responsibility had little effect and sometimes provoked resistance. Researchers cautioned that the measured effects were generally small.
