Meta appeals Ofcom classification of WhatsApp and Instagram under UK safety law
Meta has appealed Ofcom's decision to place WhatsApp and Instagram in a category carrying added duties under the UK's Online Safety Act.
Meta has filed an appeal against Ofcom's classification of WhatsApp and Instagram under the United Kingdom's Online Safety Act. The classification adds obligations covering transparency, user controls, fraudulent advertising and records of illegal content.
Meta said it is challenging Ofcom's interpretation and implementation of the law rather than the law itself.
