Michigan Senate nominee El-Sayed apologizes for response to synagogue attack
Abdul El-Sayed apologized to Michigan Jewish Democrats for adding broader context to his initial condemnation of a March attack on a synagogue.
El-Sayed, Michigan's Democratic Senate nominee, told the Michigan Democratic Jewish Caucus that his response to the attack on Temple Israel should have ended with an unequivocal condemnation. Authorities said a man drove a truck into the West Bloomfield Township synagogue and injured a security guard.
El-Sayed said he had tried to discuss a wider cycle of violence immediately after the attack and now considered that a mistake. He also apologized for pain caused by his statement.
