Mouse study finds gut-trained immune cells migrate to brain membranes
Researchers found that infection-responsive T cells traveled from the gut to membranes around the brain in mice and responded again during a later infection.
A mouse study found that immune cells trained by intestinal infections migrated through the bloodstream to the meninges, the protective membranes surrounding the brain. Researchers identified matching T-cell receptors in the gut and meninges.
The cells remained in the meninges and reacted when the mice were infected again more than a month later, suggesting a lasting immune memory. The findings were published in Nature Neuroscience.
