Musk says SpaceX is building a Texas foundry for gas-turbine components
Elon Musk said SpaceX is developing in-house casting for gas-turbine blades and vanes at a foundry in Bastrop, Texas.
Musk said the SpaceX facility would cast turbine blades and vanes, components whose limited production has constrained new gas-fired power capacity. He claimed in-house casting could shorten the time needed to bring turbines online by as much as 18 months.
TechCrunch reported that the plan is intended to support power demand from AI infrastructure, while noting lawsuits and health concerns involving emissions from gas turbines used at data centers.
