NASA launches Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope from Florida
NASA launched the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope aboard a SpaceX Falcon Heavy from Kennedy Space Center for a three-month journey to its planned orbit.
NASA said the telescope launched Sunday from Kennedy Space Center and separated from its rocket as planned. Ground controllers also confirmed deployment of its solar panels and lower instrument sunshade.
The infrared observatory is designed to survey large areas of the sky for research into dark matter, dark energy and exoplanets. NASA expects commissioning to take about three months.
