NASA says fuel savings could extend Roman telescope operations to at least 22 years
NASA said a precise trajectory correction and surplus fuel could give the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope enough propellant for at least 22 years of science operations.
NASA reported that Roman's first mid-course correction used about 40 pounds of fuel, less than 10% of the amount budgeted for the maneuver, and was executed with more than 99% accuracy. The telescope was designed around a 10-year fuel budget, including its primary and extended missions; actual operations will depend on future mission decisions and spacecraft performance.
