Niger's army contains Niamey mutiny with support from Russia's Africa Corps

The uprising began at a military base at Niamey's airport and spread toward other sensitive sites before forces loyal to Niger's military government retook the base. The number of soldiers involved and the mutineers' motives remain unclear.

Russia's ambassador said Niger requested assistance from the Africa Corps, and reports said the Russian force provided ground and aerial support.
