Plaskett Fire prompts evacuations along California's Big Sur coast
A new wildfire prompted evacuations near Big Sur as crews also worked to contain the larger Timber Fire, officials reported.
The Plaskett Fire began Wednesday in steep Monterey County terrain near Highway 1, leading to evacuation orders and warnings for isolated properties. Its cause was under investigation and no containment had been reported.
Farther north, crews carried out controlled burns around the Timber Fire, which had burned nearly 31 square miles and was more than 20% contained.
