ProPublica test finds DraftKings safeguards did not halt simulated problem gambling
A ProPublica reporter who simulated problem-gambling behavior for 10 weeks reported that DraftKings’ voluntary safety tools did not stop continued betting.
The investigation found that the reporter received promotional prompts and gained VIP status while making escalating deposits and bets. DraftKings said its responsible-gaming system provides adequate safeguards.
ProPublica reported that the company said it can proactively close accounts when behavior raises enough concerns but did not specify how often that occurs.
