Researchers identify new tick-associated virus in patients in China
Researchers identified Asian longhorned tick nairovirus in patients in China who had symptoms resembling another tick-borne infection.
The newly identified virus was associated with fatigue, gastrointestinal symptoms, low platelet counts and signs of liver problems. Some patients were also infected with Dabie bandavirus.
The report identified no U.S. infections. Experts said the invasive Asian longhorned tick has not been linked to human disease transmission in the United States.
