Single brain implant decodes intended speech and gestures simultaneously

Researchers demonstrated a brain implant that translated intended words and gestures at the same time for two people with severe paralysis.

The proof-of-concept system used 253 electrodes over the sensorimotor cortex and artificial intelligence to turn brain activity into on-screen text and avatar movements. The study involved one participant after a brainstem stroke and another with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
