State Department says about 85 Americans remain unaccounted for after Nepal-Tibet floods
A State Department spokesperson said about 85 Americans remained unaccounted for after flooding along the Nepal-Tibet border, while nine had been evacuated.
State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott said Sunday that officials were not aware of any U.S. citizen deaths. He said the department had added support at its embassies in Kathmandu and Beijing and was coordinating with Nepal on rescue efforts.
Local authorities reported more than 800 deaths and about 3,000 people missing across Nepal and Tibet. The U.S. Geological Survey said seismic data indicated a glacial collapse and debris flow near the border.
