States and writers settle challenges to Paramount-Warner merger
Twelve states and the Writers Guild of America settled their challenges to Paramount's $81 billion Warner Bros. Discovery acquisition, subject to a judge's approval.
The agreements remove major legal obstacles to Paramount's planned acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery, though the states' settlement still requires judicial approval.
Paramount agreed to measures including more U.S. film production, support for displaced workers and monitoring of editorial independence. The writers' settlement includes a five-year bar on layoffs at CBS News and a $17.5 million payment to the union's health fund.
