Sydney records warmest winter as three Australian states set seasonal temperature records
Sydney recorded its warmest winter, while New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania each had their warmest winter on record, according to Australia's weather bureau.
Sydney's mean winter temperature reached 15.3C, exceeding the previous 2013 record, while Melbourne matched its 2005 winter record, the Bureau of Meteorology reported. New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania each recorded their warmest winter.
Australia's national winter temperature was 1.45C above the 1961–1990 average, equal to the country's third-highest reading since national observations began in 1910. The bureau expects above-average temperatures across much of Australia during spring.
