Trump administration proposes ending roadless protections for national forests
The Trump administration proposed rescinding a 2001 rule that restricts development across about 45 million acres of national forest.
The proposed repeal would remove limits on road construction, drilling and logging in areas covered by the Roadless Area Conservation Rule. Forest Service Chief Tom Schultz said the change would aid forest management and wildfire response.
Public Citizen said timber businesses connected to Schultz's former industry roles could benefit. A Forest Service spokesperson rejected the claim that the policy serves an industry agenda.
