Trump nominates acting Navy Secretary Hung Cao for permanent post
President Donald Trump announced Hung Cao as his nominee for Navy secretary; Cao has served as acting secretary for about four months.
Trump announced the nomination on Tuesday, and Cao said he was honored to continue leading the Navy and Marine Corps. Cao is a former Navy special operations officer and the unsuccessful Republican nominee for a Virginia Senate seat in 2024.
The nomination requires Senate confirmation. Cao has served as acting Navy secretary since the previous secretary left the post in April.
