UK prime minister exempts unlawful-killing convictions from early-release scheme

UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham said people convicted of unlawful killing will be excluded from a planned early-release scheme.

Burnham said the revised exclusions will keep hundreds of people in prison, including those convicted of manslaughter in the 2019 killing of police officer Andrew Harper. The government is reviewing the scheme before Parliament returns in September.
