UN report says 1.5°C warming threshold could be breached within years
A UN report says global temperatures could exceed the 1.5°C threshold within years and urges faster emissions cuts and climate adaptation.
The UN Environment Programme report says the risks from extreme weather, ecosystem loss and other impacts increase with every additional fraction of warming. UN officials said faster fossil-fuel phaseout, methane reductions, ecosystem protection and adaptation funding could limit the scale and duration of an overshoot.
