U.S. Supreme Court to review challenge to race-neutral school admissions policy
The Supreme Court will consider what plaintiffs must show to prove intentional discrimination from a race-neutral school admissions policy.
The court agreed to hear a challenge to a lottery-based admissions policy used by Virginia magnet schools. The plaintiffs contend the policy disadvantages Asian American applicants.
The school system says the policy is race-neutral. The case will address the standard for proving intentional discrimination when a policy does not explicitly classify applicants by race.
