Webb detects water and silicate dust around dying star IRS 3
NASA reported that Webb observations detected water for the first time in the dust envelope surrounding IRS 3 near the center of the Milky Way.
NASA said mid-infrared observations from the James Webb Space Telescope revealed oxygen-rich silicate dust and, for the first time, water in the material surrounding IRS 3. The aging star lies in a dense starfield near Sagittarius A*.
